Minilift
Procedure at a Glance:
Indications: For patients with mid/lower face aging, descent of fat pads, and jowling at jawline. This procedure is typically indicated for patients who are experiencing mild to moderate mid face aging without concern to their neck area. Patients should be at a maintainable weight, practice good skin care, and limit their exposure to the sun. Avoidance of unhealthy lifestyle choices that can accelerate the aging process are also highly recommended for best results.

Surgery Type: Outpatient
Downtime: One week with restrictions on exercise and lifting anything heavier than 5lbs. Patient will continue to heal beyond one week and bruising/swelling typically start to subside around the three week mark if patient follows instructions. Patient will still need to adhere to certain post-surgical instructions that will be specific to the procedure. Limitations will be discussed during a thorough pre-operative appointment.
Removal of Stitches: Stitches are dissolvable
Techniques: Modified Deep Plane Lift (SMAS-Superficial Musculoaperneurotic System) combined with liposuction or platysmaplasty if indicated. Removal of Stitches: Stitches are dissolvable; however, a drain is often placed to combat excess fluid retention, bleeding, and swelling post surgically. Drains are typically removed between 3-5 days depending on output.
Techniques: Modified Deep Plane Lift (SMAS-Superficial Musculoaperneurotic System) with platysmaplasty, & liposuction if indicated. Incisions are discreetly placed around the temporal tuft and natural contours of the ears with an additional incision placed in the natural crease under the chin to allow for sculpting of the muscles and fat under the jawline. The SMAS layer and fat pads of the midface are elevated to a more youthful position and the platysmal bands are brought back together in the midline and then used as a natural corset to provide a tighter neck and jawline to turn the clock back on facial and neck aging.

The best age for a facelift is really dependent upon when the signs of aging begin to bother a patient. Some patients want to be proactive and stay ahead of aging, while others reach out once aging has become bothersome and they want to turn the clock back. Most patients begin considering facelift procedures when they begin to notice midface descent, jowling, and loss of definition to jawline, or they don’t like how their neck looks.
Typically swelling and bruising begin to dissipate at about three weeks if the patient is follows post operative instructions. While you will still be actively healing, patients feel they start to look like themselves again.
After a facelift patients will wear a compression dressing until their follow up appointment the next morning at which time it will be removed and then they are given a strap that has a pocket for ice packs if they choose to use it. Some patients choose to wear this post surgically and some do not. It is an individual preference.
Patients who have had a facelift should sleep at an incline post surgically for a minimum of one week but recommended for 3 weeks to help with swelling. They do not need to sleep sitting straight up but at more of a reclined angle. Many patients elect to sleep in a recliner post surgically.
One week of downtime with restrictions on exercise and lifting anything heavier than 5 lbs. The recommendation is just a week of dedicated rest and relaxation and avoiding any strenuous activities. Once patients are released from restrictions they can slowly ramp up to their normal activity level. Full healing takes about a year but the majority of the healing is done in the first few months.
