Browlift
Procedure at a Glance
Indications: For patients with heavy or low lying eyebrows, redundant upper eyelid skin, and forehead wrinkles.
Anesthesia: IV Twilight Sedation
Surgery Type: Outpatient
Downtime: One week with restrictions on exercise and lifting anything heavier than 5 lbs. Stitches are removed at day 10 post surgically. Patient will still need to adhere to certain post-surgical instructions that will be specific to the procedure. Limitations will be discussed during a thorough pre-operative appointment.
Removal of Stitches: Stitches will be removed at 10 days post operatively.
Technique: A Trichophytic Browlift is Dr. Winslow’s preferred approach as skin is removed to elevate the brow to a more youthful position. The incision is placed a few hairs behind the start of the natural hairline from widow’s peak to widow’s peak. The incision is angled so the patient will have hair regrowth through the incision line to hide the scar. The corregator muscle is cut during this procedure. This will help to smooth out the scowling lines, but this vestigial muscle will regrow, and Botox is typically needed eventually to maintain the results of a smooth forehead long term.
Complementary Procedures: Laser skin resurfacing can complement your browlift procedure to further reduce fine lines and wrinkles.

Browlift surgery itself provides permanent results but you will continue to age. There are a variety of factors that play into how each patient maintains surgical results to include skin care and quality, sun exposure, genetics, and lifestyle.
Sleeping in an elevated position post surgically can help with swelling. We typically recommend a one week minimum.
The difference between an upper blepharoplasty (upper eyelid surgery) and a trichophytic browlift is that an eyelift is an excision of the extra skin in the upper eyelid crease. While a browlift elevates the brow complex that descends as a result of aging and restores lower setting brows that have fallen below the orbital rim, to a more youthful position. The incision for a trichophytic browlift is placed a few hairs behind the start of the hairline. When healed the patient will have hair regrowth to camouflage the scar. On occasion if a patient has very low brows and an abundance of excess eyelid skin, the procedures can be combined but the patient has to be left with enough eyelid skin to safely close their eyes.
We don’t typically get complaints of pain post surgically as we provide patients with medication to control any discomfort. Patients can sometimes experience a headache post- surgically following a browlift and usually elect to take pain medication for a few days following their procedure.
A browlift takes about 1 -1 ½ hrs.
