The Rhinoplasty Procedure: What to Expect
At the start of Rhinoplasty in Indianapolis, IV twilight sedation and numbing are administered. This helps to ensure patient comfort for the duration of surgery.
Next, a small horizontal incision is created across the columella (the external skin separating the nostrils). The skin is then carefully lifted, providing increased access to the surgeon.
Changes are made to the bone, cartilage, and/or soft tissue of the nose. In certain cases, grafts are placed to support the nasal architecture.
In the case of Open Rhinoplasty, the skin of the nose is then redraped. After all changes have been made, incisions are closed with dissolvable sutures.
What Is Revision Rhinoplasty?
Revision Rhinoplasty, also called Secondary Rhinoplasty, is a procedure performed to correct issues caused by a previous Rhinoplasty operation. It can be utilized to address numerous kinds of cosmetic and functional issues, including but not limited to nasal valve collapse and insufficient nasal support in need of corrective measures.
Only incredibly skilled Rhinoplasty doctors like Dr. Winslow offer Revision Rhinoplasty, since this type of surgery requires a great deal of experience and precision and can be incredibly complex; the nasal architecture has often been weakened, and unexpected scar tissue is typically present.

Rhinoplasty surgery can be done once a patient is fully grown so that usually occurs in the mid teens and beyond into adulthood. The best way to ensure you are an appropriate candidate for Rhinoplasty is to schedule a consultation so that Dr. Winslow can evaluate your nose and your surgical goals.
Primary Rhinoplasty surgery typically takes about 2-2 ½ hours, Revision Rhinoplasty can sometimes be more complex and take a bit longer depending on what is being done at the time of surgery.
Not every Rhinoplasty requires osteotomies, or the breaking of the nasal bones. This is entirely dependent upon the patient's anatomy and their surgical goals.
